I wanted to get a new flatiron because the one I bought a few years ago (which was NOT cheap, $200+) pulls on my hair too much, and because I get headaches and migraines easily so every time I would straighten or curl my hair I had to pop a few painkillers in an attempt to either prevent, or ease the pain of a headache. Hence why I haven’t really straightened my hair or used the flat iron to curl my hair more than a handful of times in the last 2 years. Also, for an expensive flat iron, it really didn’t do that great of a job. I had to run the iron over each section of hair multiple times to get it straight enough, and this made the process take at least 45 minutes. Ain’t no Momma got time for that!
So I did a lot of research on the internet from beauty websites, blogs, magazine sites, YouTube reviews…etc to see which flat irons are rated the best, and to my surprise the flat iron that kept coming out on top was a $30 (in Canadian funds) Remington flat iron that can be bought at pretty much any drug store or Walmart type store (in the states). I was skeptical to say the least. How could a $30 flat iron be as good or better than the $100-300 ones sold in salons and beauty supply stores?!? I decided it couldn’t be and set off to Sephora to test out some other more expensive, and decently rated flat irons.
I had heard really good things about the GHD flat iron so that was the one I was most interested in testing out at Sephora. It sucked. I tried straightening one section of hair repeatedly and it just wouldn’t get smooth and sleek. I then tried curling a section…not even one curl was achieved. I was super disappointed. So I texted hubby and told him to order me the $30 Remington flat iron off of Amazon.ca, at least if it sucked at least I would only be out $30 (yay for free shipping).
Less than a week later, to my delight, the Remington S5500 Digital Anti-Static 1 Inch Ceramic Hair Straightener arrived! Thank goodness it arrived just as I put The Twincesses down for their nap. I opened that package up immediately and within 10 minutes I had perfectly sleek, straight hair!
My hair, and my head thank Remington for making this unreal flat iron for wicked cheap! Best flat iron I’ve EVER used! It definitely beats a CHI, GHD, Babyliss, Ti and every flat iron I’ve owned and/or tested out.
Details about the flat iron:
The Remington S5500 has 1 Inch long ceramic plates infused with “anti-static technology” (whatever the hell that means), the temperature goes up to 410 degrees, heats up in 30 seconds and auto shuts off after one hour, has a swivel cord and a 2 year warranty! If I had to rate it out of 5, I would give this flat iron a 4.75. The only reason it doesn’t get a perfect score is because, I wish that the cord was at least 6 inches longer, and also due to the fact that the outside tip of the iron gets pretty hot, not hot enough that I have gotten ever gotten burnt, but much hotter than any other iron I’ve ever owned or used.
So if you’re in the market for a new flat iron I highly recommend that Remington S5500. When I need a new curling wand or curling iron I will definitely be ordering Remingtons!
